Fantastic site - I had to find out more about the man after seeing the "Jake On The Box" programme on TV last week.
I do remember vividly (even though it was around 40 years ago) seeing the LWT show "Tickertape", on which Jake guested. Even now I can remember the words to the show's theme which Jake sang - "Ticker ticker tape, we're chock-a-block with flim-flam, piffle and poppycock"...
I wonder if anyone else remember the show or, more importantly, whether or not the programmes still exist in the LWT / Carlton archives?

I just caught the tail end of that programe too and am endeavouring to listen again but I did order one of his albums which came today and he's made us laugh all day. I only wish I'd been a bit older in the 60s. He needs to be reintroduced to today's audience and we need to be reminded what real talent is. And that programme needs to be repeated in prime time. I have much more finding out to do.

I saw him onstage at Tunbridge Wells I think it was, in the late 70s. He was shy, and forgot the words.

Had forgotten about Jake since the sixties.
Saw the BBC programme last night.
Must seek out his music and learn his style on the guitar.
Wonderful.

For a Yorkshire man Jake was the tops, maybe it was the French influence, but whatever, I could listen to his singing and guitar playing for ever.....Sully (Red rose) :) :)

I only saw Jake live once, at Broadstairs Folk Week, ten or more years ago. An hour or so ago I saw a programme on BBC, about the man himself. And I respect him even more now!
It's a great pity he is no longer with us.

He was great and the music business missed a trick. He will continue to grow in popularity because he had an eternal quality. That's what matters. It's called ART.

An immaculate writer, singer, player. I wish he was still here in person but thank goodness his voice still is.
