Jean Sheridan from Helmsley, York | Signed on: Thu 16 Apr 2009 12:22:34 BST I missed the recent concert by the Fake Jakes in Terrington - does anyone know when/where else they might be performing? Or how to access information/contact them? Is there a Fake Jake reading this? Is there any more Jakery happening soon in my area? | | | | Barry Harper | Signed on: Fri 27 Mar 2009 16:49:11 GMT Nice to be back on the site. As long as someone, somewhere, does a 'Jake' song... Now and then... He's never really gone. He was brilliant (of course). I've also got a radio series he narrated, called "They did it their way" -- about musical parodies. | | | Alan.J.Thackray from Scotland | Signed on: Mon 16 Mar 2009 14:01:11 GMT I'm probably related, but I can't prove it! It's just a chance conversation with somebody that saw my Driving License that brings me here! | | | | Neil W Smith | Signed on: Tue 10 Mar 2009 16:50:42 GMT I only saw Jake live once, at the Salford University folk club some time around 1970. I admit I was a callow youth then and probably only went because he was on the telly. When he made his way out to the front he walked very close to where I was sitting and I couldn't help noticing that his hands were shaking. Once he started to sing, however,I was transfixed. During the interval I was wandering round looking for the gents'(we were in the labyrinthine brick and stone former Technical College) and to my surprise came across Jake sitting on his own on a remote staircase with a pint of Guinness at his side. Callow though I was, I realised that he was seeking solitude deliberately and just gave him a civil nod as I passed, which he returned in kind. Not exactly an exciting story, but one that remains a vivid memory - I can still see him in my mind's eye sat on the low stone step with his Guinness. | | | Paul the Apothecary from Cannock Chase | Signed on: Mon 23 Feb 2009 19:46:29 GMT Jake is irreplaceable. I try to restrict myself- just a few portions of his "stuff" at a time and, just like the poor dieter that I am , I invariably overindulge and find myself just wishing-like-mad that I had discovered him sooner ; soon enough to see a performance. Keep flying the flag with this great web-site. | | | | gwyn | Signed on: Sat 21 Feb 2009 22:07:05 GMT I think you just have to acknowledge his genius! When have we seen such original talent for years! | | | | Joanna | Signed on: Wed 18 Feb 2009 19:14:58 GMT An entirely unique performer, whose death leaves an irreperable gap and even now, a sense of the unfairness that Jake is not still able to lift our spirits with his unique style... | | | | Only the gypsy | Signed on: Fri 06 Feb 2009 21:12:01 GMT I had the great good fortune to see Jake Thackray when I was a student. The world is a much darker place without him. | | | John Bowen from Romford, Essex | Signed on: Sun 01 Feb 2009 23:45:50 GMT Great evening at the Tramshed Woolwich some years ago. Wonderful artist, much missed. Regards, John
