Paul from North Berwick | Signed on: Sun 03 Sep 2006 15:03:57 BST Found the website by accident & signed up immediately. Great fan of Jake since the early 70s when he did the folk clubs. Also saw him one final time in Edinburgh sometime in the 90s - just as funny, just a tense and the same joke ! | | | | Maga Ndigbo | Signed on: Tue 29 Aug 2006 23:03:06 BST nice site keep it up | | | Alec Fraser from Birmingham | Signed on: Tue 29 Aug 2006 23:01:41 BST How simply Wonderful, a fitting site. Like so many I took his presence for granted. I now find his songs a bridge to a far-off place I would like to go back to | | | Andrew Harding from Milano Italy | Signed on: Tue 29 Aug 2006 23:00:11 BST Like most people I guess I was introduced to Jake watching "That's Life" with my folks back home in Brum during the early '70s - I must have been around 11/12 at the time. I still get the same buzz and warmth from listening to Jake even today. He will always be with us. Thanks Jake. | | | Nigel D from Cardiff | Signed on: Wed 23 Aug 2006 00:02:01 BST In addition to Jake, we ought also to remember his various 'sidekicks' - I knew his bass player, Alan Williams, well for a number of years. As Jake followers will be aware, Alan passed on some years ago. I have also been in touch with the editor of the Yorkshire Post, having read Alan Franks' article in yesterdays' Times magazine (The Knowledge)where Jake commanded a 4-page centre spread (though no staples in navels, I'm pleased to report!)
| | | Ian from Tyneside | Signed on: Thu 17 Aug 2006 22:38:42 BST Some things, some people are timeless, and that is why generation after generation pick up the best and keep them alive. My daughters - 14 & 16 years - have become big fans in recent months, courtesy of my 'Best of...' CD, 'Lah-Di-Dah', and the chance to see him perform via this website was too good to pass up. Many thanks from us all. | | | Bryan Wood from Hertfordshire | Signed on: Thu 17 Aug 2006 16:27:55 BST just discovered your site. Wonderful, so pleased jake is still remembered with so much affection. | | | andy wood from Haworth | Signed on: Tue 15 Aug 2006 18:07:28 BST Just a few memories of Jake to add to the rest. I saw him twice, first at The Crucible in Sheffield and then more intimately at Bingley Little Theatre - around 1979 I guess. I had an album and knew all the songs on it but I'd never heard The Bull. I remember that when he got to a rude word he almost mouthed it rather than sing it out loud! "The bigger the bull the bigger the ... the bigger the bull the bigger and quicker and thicker the bull .... falls! there were little old ladies in the audience and I think it was his concession to genteel Bingley - it makes me laugh to think of it! I was also amazed, having only heard the one CD how funny he was between songs. One of the best "performing dicks" I've ever seen. Sad this site couldn't have been around while he was here to appreciate the love there is out here. | | | | Russell | Signed on: Tue 15 Aug 2006 08:51:56 BST What a fabulous web site. All power to you. Beautifully laid out and so much interesting information. I only met Jake once at the Medina Theatre in Newport on the Isle of Wight. I was a volunteer technical guy, doing lights and sound. That night I was put in charge of Jake; getting him to the green room, sorting out any requests (which were none) and then miking him up and doing the sound. I met a lot of 'pro's' in my ten years as chairperson and techie working at the Medina Theatre. Jake has to rate at the top; kind, humerous and above all so polite. The concert took place back on 18th November 1983 and he should have been accompanied by a bass player (Alan Williams), but was on his own. Two hours of the most amazing humour, passion and thought provoking honesty. I asked Jake at the time if we could record the concert for our archives. His response was something on the lines of 'By all means, but who would want to listen to it?' It is tucked away in the attic somewhere. It is something that the Jake Thackery estate would like? Please let me know if it is of use, I would love to pass it on. It is either on reel-to-reel or cassette. I would have to find it. Thanks again for a fantastic web page dedicated to one of our greatest exponents of comic song. All the best, Russell. | | | Phil Bowry from Australia | Signed on: Wed 26 Jul 2006 02:08:35 BST I first saw JT on That's Life in 72/73 where he sang The Jolly Captain. A very funny song, I'm so happy I bought a copy of The Bantam Cock. This album has some of JT's best work, not many rate Jolly Captian in their top ten! So I would like to put it at #4 play it once more.. Thank you Jake Thackray | | |
