I first saw JT on That's Life in 72/73 where he sang The Jolly Captain. A very funny song, I'm so happy I bought a copy of The Bantam Cock. This album has some of JT's best work, not many rate Jolly Captian in their top ten! So I would like to put it at #4 play it once more.. Thank you

What an excellent site. Years ago a friend introduced me to the songs of JT and it is a delight to find the lyrics of Sister Josephine and the Ballad of Billy Kershaw. I'm looking forward to learning a whole lot more now. Sad to learn that Jake died a couple of years ago - I would love to have seen him perform. What a great writer - a true representative of English culture at its wittiest. Congratulations to everyone involved in putting this website together. It should be used as a model for all others.

Fabulous site. I will contribute as soon as I can move some video to DVD. Thanks for taking the trouble to keep Jake alive.
Kind regards Lez

Great website and a fitting tribute to one of the funniest and talented men I have ever seen. Thanks for all those great nights in the folk clubs Jake.

Great website. I had the pleasure of performing on the same bill as Jake in the 80s at Nailsea near Bristol, and drinking after hours with him. Wonderful memories. Alan

I'm happy to say I saw Jake play at Norwich Arts Centre in 1987 or 1988. The boom arm holding his mike kept coming loose and swinging away from him mid-song. As he was talking between tunes a typical 80's roadie (sleeveless denim jacket, leather jeans, big boots) sauntered up to the stage and retightened the offending apparatus. Jake stared agog at the intruder and, as the roadie was departing, said, 'Excuse me. Have you got a thread? Only I've just lost mine.' Priceless.

It was a privialge to have seen Jake in concert several times - with Bassist and without.
Not only was a great guitarist who sung hillarious songs - he was damn funny between numbers too. Greatly missed

Congratulations on the brilliant website! I have many memories of Jake and was fortunate to see him many times in concert in different venues. The two I remember with greatest affection were an open air concert in Marsden Park, Nelson where the sheets of Jake's music kept blowing off the stand (I think it was a time when his confidence was a bit low so he needed the words in front of him). The second time was at the Preston Guildhall when, unusually for Jake, he made himself available after the concert to sign autographs along with Alan Williams, his bass player. I duly queued up and bought a copy of the live album which he duly signed with a fat black marker pen. I didn't realise until then just how tall he was and how gentle. Fond memories of a remarkable man.

I was a latent admirer of Jake having seen him on the Black & White Television in our house'I think the programme was Bradens Week which was broadcast on sunday nights'I re discovered Jake in the late seventies after coming across an album in the Record Library. I got the chance to see him play in the early eighties, 83 i think and he was superb' just what i expected' making his entrance with pint pot in hand' he had a way of making you feel that he was on your level and not some big star' to me he was a unique figure in the british music scene and i am glad that i had the chance to see him play. I cant think of anyone around today that has his unique Qualities. Thanks to all concerned for creating this site......Regards :)
