Anthony Guter from London | Signed on: Fri 12 Jan 2007 00:53:44 GMT I knew Jake's work during the 60s and 70s and had some reel to reel tape recordings of his TV shows (sadly long since lost) but he had slipped out of my consciousness. Then I saw the BBC4 documentary, found this website and bought Jake in a Box. And a lot of memories came back. What a brilliant use of words, slang, rhyme and exquisite combinations of phrases coupled with that extraordinary voice he had. He should be remembered as one of the finest English songwriters. |

| Dave Craven | Signed on: Fri 12 Jan 2007 00:53:22 GMT Just rediscovered Jake. One of my teachers from Intake school days, I remember well practising a song he had written for the school play 'The Mayor Of Great Wipings' and funnily enough some 30 years later still remember the words. Great guy. |

Morny Stannit from Live Manchester, born Liverpool | Signed on: Fri 12 Jan 2007 00:54:39 GMT I came to love Jake's music quite late, I was never a fan when he was in the public eye (well, punk happened when I was 14, what else was I going to do?). Came to him via a developing interest in Chanson. Why is there no room for Jake and his peers in modern British popular culture? Anyway, it's a great site and the news that it's soon to get better is music to my ears |

| Granville | Signed on: Sun 10 Dec 2006 11:27:52 GMT Jake was one of the few I actually spent what little real money I could afford, to go and watch live. Always a memorable occasion. Still now, thirty years on, recall the evenings and the pure joy of his words and music. Having recently remarried to an American lady, I have been introducing her to this “new” music. The complex rhythms and wonderful use of language have been a real thrill, almost like discovering it all over again. Then, the TV shows came on and suddenly it’s all things Jake. Good. He is undoubtedly one of this generation’s most original and creative artists and his worth is much underrated. Maybe now this will be rectified and a true recognition will be achieved.

Paul Thompson from Perth, Scotland | Signed on: Sun 10 Dec 2006 11:27:20 GMT ... PS - I just remembered! I have had the chorus of a song in my head for the last forty years. It runs: "J'suis l'pornographe du phonographe, le polisson de la chanson". Blow me down - it's a Georges Brassens song! |

Paul Thompson from Perth, Scotland | Signed on: Sun 10 Dec 2006 11:27:07 GMT Jake was a favourite of my family in the 1960s and 70s. I loved his facial expression - lugubrious bit with a hint of a smile - and now and again a phrase of his (maybe "...what a bloody funny nun you are...", or "...dancing frantically naked for Beelzebub...") would pop into my mind, and I would find myself imitating his voice. "On Again" would leave me unable to breathe, it is so funny. My all-time favourite is "The Bull" in which, by pretended modesty, he draws our attention to the word "shite" dy delivering it sotto voce. A brilliant chanteur - I miss him like crazy. |
