Re:Who else do Jake fans listen to? - 2007/04/23 19:46
A few years ago,I compiled my "Desert Island Discs".I'm ashamed to say that the opener was Gary Glitter's "Leader Of The Gang"(yes,I know and I'm sorry but that's the truth of it!).There followed tracks by XTC,The Incredible String Band,Gentle Giant,Jake (of course:"The Bull",if you're interested),Dire Straits,Peter Skellern and Mike Heron's Reputation. Were I to compile a list today I suspect that three quarters of those artists would remain in the line-up. I'd replace the disgraced (and, indeed, disgraceful)Glitter with Ian Drury ("Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick") and I 'd probably finish off with Bizet's "Pearl Fishers' Duet",sung by Jussi Bjorling with Robert Merrill.I think I've mentioned several other folk in various posts on this site, including Dick Gaughan and Les Barker.Tomorrow night (24/04/07)I'm going to see Robin Williamson and John Renbourn at Chester's "Telford's Warehouse".So,you see,it's all rather eclectic, isn't it?
