First time - 2008/03/20 10:16 Hello People. If my memory serves me well, I first saw Jake (whom I had never heard of) at the Centre Hotel Folk Club in Hull in 1967 or 68. It was a very tiny room and I was sitting with my girlfriend about 6 feet from the from of the small stage. I absolutely cried laughing, and on a couple of occasions during the set had Jake smiling (rare?) at my helplessness. His play with words in a broad North Country manner touched a chord with me. I tried for a few years to play his music myself but although I knew the songs I could never give it that presentation style of his. I remember him recording a radio programme with John D. Loudermilk, which was, for me, a serious mis-match of styles.
My all-time favourites are Leopold Alcocks and Isobel. People of my age have lived through some wonderfull times in music and even now I occasinally dg out my worn out old C90 cassettes and have a good laugh. Pete McLeod

Re:First time - 2008/04/14 23:05 Hi Pete

I've not been around the board much recently and spotted this post sitting forlornly without a reply.

Welcome along.
