Edinburgh Jakefest: Travel and Accomodation - 2005/05/21 10:33 You will see from the home page that tickets are available for the Edinburgh Jakefest as of Monday 23 May.

For those who plan to travel to Edinburgh, you can drive, you can take both GNER and Virgin mainline trains or you can fly with a variety of low cost airlines (you can even get a ferry to Rosyth from Zeebruger).

Edinburgh is a major city with a tourist trade for all 12 months of the year and has every type of accomodation from cheap and grumpy to five star international class hotels: The Edinburgh Tourist Board have a comprehensive list at their website which is http://www.edinburgh.org which also has their contact phone number.

The venue is 5-10 minutes walk from Haymarket Railway station and is well served by Edinburgh's excellent bus services. If you're looking for a B and B or small hotel reasonably close to the venue then the areas which you ought to be looking at are Haymarket (where there is a Travel Lodge), Roseburn and Murrayfield. The tourist board can advise and the usual "star" ranking system is reasonably accurate. There are also several backpackers' hostels.

Please note that if you're driving, parking is notoriously bad (and expensive) in Edinburgh and is not great at the venue and we would advise walking, bus or taxi on the night. If you require disabled parking at the venue please discuss this with the box office at St. Brides.

Drop me a line to ian dot burdon at blueyonder dot co dot uk if you have any queries or problems.

Ian says that in his own mind he thinks of this event as the JOCKFEST.
This seems an admirable name, for those of us who prefer two syllables to five - or is it six?
