Re:Prayers needed... - 2006/01/02 13:05 It is a very long time since I reported here on Archie's progress, which is partly because he came home from hospital still disabled by the stroke he suffered while unconscious with the septicaemia, and the prognosis did not seem very positive. However, despite various scares and setbacks he has continued to make slow progress, though unable to use his left arm and leg properly. When we saw him in September he was only able to 'get about' on his bottom, dragging himself with the heel of his good foot.

But my very best Christmas present has been to have him walk through my front door on Boxing Day, supported by his father, and to see him walk around the room by himself, just holding on to the furniture. He can also stand unsupported for a few moments at a time. He is now 4, and as bright as a button, and the realisation that improvement is possible has put a new sparkle in his eyes. He delights in showing off his newly acquired skills, such as standing on his 'bad' leg while he operates the pedal bin with his good one!

I am so thankful for all the support he and his family have received and cannot think of a better way of greeting 2006 than with this message.

pedal bins - 2006/01/02 19:51 Hi Judith
Really good to hear Archie is doing well and i'm sure will improve even more.
Your Pedal bin tale is really touching.
My mother was diagnosed with cancer in november and starts treatment in a few days' god we just dont know whats around the corner. Theres not much in life worth worrying about. but our children are the most precious things we will ever know.
I wish you all a good new year.
Best regards
Jim

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother, Jim. My daughter-in-law in Sydney had a mastectomy in the spring while Archie was at his worst, but she visited us with my son and another grandson over Christmas, so she has come through well up to now. I will join my caring thoughts to yours as your mother starts her treatment.

I would love to show you one, Jim, but his parents don't like me posting pictures of the children on the web unfortunately. Very hard for a proud grandmother!
