Re:Jake's Birthplace - 2006/04/23 21:59 Have we any contact with any of Jake's brothers/sisters? Something I'm only vaguely aware of - was he the youngest in a large family? I do know that his cousin posted a message in the tribute book, but he didn't seem to know Jake that well, referred to him as John in fact. However he might know something of the family's early years?

Any date for the documentary Ian?

Re:Jake's Birthplace - 2006/04/23 22:13 Sadly, Pam, Jake had two older brothers, both of whom pre-deceased him. That cousin of whom you speak wrote from the Netherlands, I think, and hasn't replied to any enquiries - and anyway, some of his information was misleading and confused. The earliest reliable contact we have is with Malcolm Yorke, who was at Durham University with him - when he still answered to the name of John. But sadly Malcolm knows very little about Jake's pre-Durham life.

Victor's TV doc has been in the hands of the Beeb for a couple of months, and they are reportedly delighted with it - but as at this moment it hasn't been scheduled for TX. The minute it is, we'll shout loud and long!

Re:Jake's Birthplace - 2006/10/07 15:48 Hi, I know little of Jake’s early life but was astonished on hearing that one of his songs refers frequently to Kirkstall (Leeds): I had always been a great fan as a teenager, eagerly awaiting any TV appearances on progs like 'Braden’s week.It was great to see him perform on the two programs aired last evening but in my wildest imaginings I never expected to hear him sing about the place where I now live. Wonderful!
