A shameless, but still Jake-related plug - 2007/05/09 12:32
Hi, all !
It would appear that, despite having booked me on four previous occasions, the organisers of the prestigious and highly esteemed Woodman Folk Club (held each Friday at "The Woodman", Mount Pleasant, off Cot Lane, Kingswinford - http://www.woodmanfolk.co.uk/index.htm ) seem to have repeated the clerical error and have engaged what I laughingly call my "musical services" for the upcoming Friday, 25th May.
This sounds to me like a jolly good excuse to indulge in a disgraceful performance of a huge swathe (8 currently planned) of songs made famous (and indeed, performed far better) by Jake Thackray, along with a smattering of supposedly amusing items by Grant Baynham, Cosmotheka, Mitch Benn, Martin Carthy, Clive James, Jasper Carrott, Fred Wedlock, Flanders and Swann, and the evil and perverse Mr Tom Lehrer. But if YOU find yourself wondering what such songs would sound like when performed by someone much smaller than the original artistes, and if there is nothing on on all 142 Telewest channels, you can't find all of the pieces from your Monopoly set, the neighbours are holding a "Come as your favourite Orphan from 'Annie' Party" and you feel like a jolly good guffaw, you could frankly do worse. There's a bar anyway, and I'm going. o)
