Sr Jo, Leeds, Sat 11 June - 2005/02/07 16:32
Just booked two seats for the Saturday matinee (2:30), first row of the balcony, to avoid neck cricks and "Kindly remove your hat, missus", and aisle seats for ease of access. The early bird . . .
It's been suggested that us boarders might want to sit together. I sounded the theatre out on the possibility of them reserving a block for us, but it would be too awkward (how would we identify ourselves when we called them to book?). However there are few bookings at the moment, so people can sit just about anywhere. So if you would like to sit with a group of fellow boarders, get ringing and ask for seats in the first few rows in the balcony. Or declare UDI and book a box.
I'd welcome some indication of how many plan to go, to help with planning the Saturday evening do. Now I know most of you don't post, but please take the plunge and post here or drop me a line privately, just to give us an idea of potential take-up.

Do you mean "circle", rather than upper circle?
I am planning to make the pilgramage with wife and two friends, but probably will be moving on to Dales after the performance.

Here's a link to the seating plan: http://www.leeds.gov.uk/CityVarieties/var_seat.html. It's not very big.
The only person to reply so far has seats in row L of the stalls, if stalls-loving people would like to start their own block.

It belatedly strikes me it might be sensible to repost this 21/12/04 Topica item here.
We plan to hold a mini-JakeFest in Leeds on the evening of Saturday 11 June, to follow the final matinee performance of Sister Josephine Kicks The Habit at the City Varieties Theatre. We thought that people might like to attend the matinee at the theatre, have a bite, then roll up for the mini-fest in the evening. We're currently looking into booking a folk club venue in a well-reviewed pub not that far from the theatre, but even if that falls through we'll definitely have something on that evening. We'll try to have the venue available to us straight after the matinee finishes, ideally with food available to order, but it's too early to say whether that's on.
We'll start at 7 or 7:30, finishing at 11-ish, so if you see the evening show of STKTH you might still have time to catch the last few songs, but why not see the matinee and make more of a day of it?
If you fancy the idea, book that weekend in your diary. Keep your eyes open for further announcements here as things progress, and someone will post a reminder in February or March when booking for the post-Helmsley tour opens.
If you want to book accommodation early, the venue we currently have in mind is 500m south of the train station and the theatre is 600m north of the station. So you won't go far wrong with anywhere reasonably close to the city centre / train station. The bus station is close by, too.
Hope to see you there Keith

At the moment we're looking at a micro-fest, not a mini-fest. Apart from myself and Judith, only Pam and one or few more, and Paul Thompson and retinue, have said they will go to the matinee.
Unless there are a few more, we shall have to rethink the idea. So please post here or e-mail me if you plan to attend that show: keith (dot) d (dot) donovan (at) btinternet (dot) com
Particularly welcome would be any performers.
Also posted on Topica.

Hi everyone! After a little bit of time off the scene I'm now getting into things a bit and was wondering if there were many people intending to meet up for this gig. It sounds like there is cracking potential for a great day - the Sr.J show in the afternoon and some informal entertainment for the evening. I guess the few who have so far committed will go ahead and we'll have a great time regardless, but it'd be nice to hear of anyone else intending to come. Please post here or on Topica if you like.
