In the style of Jake - 2006/02/05 10:09 I am a bit of a folkie and regularly sing Jake's stuff. I have written some songs in the past - miserable love songs etc.

I'm having a bash at writing a comedy song in Jake's style, a tribute rather than poaching. It's a lot harder than I ever thought it would be; he must have spent weeks on his lyrics and then the nightmare of learning it followed.

Any advice friends?

Do any of you write Jake type stuff, how about posting the titles or sharing the challenges?

Fondest regards,

Alistair

Yes, you are not the only one to have a go at writing Jake-type songs, and I agree with you: it is very hard, and the attempt does make one realise just how talented Jake was. There are four songs that I know of which have been posted in the off-topic threads section.

Re:In the style of Jake - 2006/02/05 11:24 Hi - I sympathise! One problem that I find is Jakes breadth of knowledge is so wide. From herbal medicine, (Jolly Captain)
Philosophy, History, and the Englsih Language in general. Plus the sheer nerve of rhyming "February"!

The more I look at his work, the more I realise how under-rated he has been.

Re:In the style of Jake - 2006/05/15 09:02 You could have a listen to the marvellous Benjamin Holland. He has three songs at http://profile.myspace.com/benjaminholland and an even bigger choice (well, two more) at his under-construction website www.benjaminholland.org.uk

He's a self-confessed Jake fan too!

Although not so much that he knows how to spell his name!
