I've just come home from a charity entertainment evening in Stockton Heath (suburb of Warrington) where I played Jolly Captain and Sister Josephine. Lots of positive feedback and memories of Jake stirred among older members of the audience ('I loved him,' 'we've got lots of his records' etc.). Did my flag waving regarding CD releases etc.
It turns out that one of Jake's brothers lived in the area (the village of Hatton) and was involved in a Stockton Heath drama group. Eventually moved away when he and his wife separated, but family may be in the area still (three Thackrays listed in the Warrington telephone directory). One son apparently became a rather good rugby player (league, presumably?). I don't know whether we can do much with this info., but it was an interesting discovery.
