Sunny Scarborough - 2006/08/29 10:30
Well, the Amblecote Jeffreys Family Circle enjoyed a splendid weekend at Scarborough. There was one last-minute panic in the possible shoehorning of Simon Mayor and Hilary James into the Sunday ensemble, but a worsening cold left poor Hilary's voice unable to do any of the songs we could free up for them. :o( Still...
Once again, somehow it all fell together on the night(s) and the performers' standard was very high : I'd like to voice my thanks here to all of them for showing, for having clearly practiced bucket-loads to get ready for their spots, and for their enthusiasm in sharing Jake's material with the world. Often at the JakeFests you get a knowledgable crowd who thus chuckle appreciatively in the right places but Scarborough's crowd were certainly up for right good belly laughs. Just shy of a couple of hundred people over both nights. :o)
So a big Baggsy List thanks to Ian and Lorraine Slipper, Busking Bob Edwards, Jenny and William Thompson, Jane Thompson and her peripatetic ball gown :o), Paul Thompson, (sometimes assisted by Bertie Dog), David Shaw-Parker, Matty Forbes, Ian Burdon and Tony Cima, and a host of new Fest players - John Thurloe, Mike Ball, Bob Curry, John Teesdale and the redoubtable Hugh Bradley, who played scratch string bass for a good two-thirds of both nights, and still had to manage his own singing set while I was standing behind him putting him off by my own bass-playing efforts. :o) Add to that several impromptu duets, trios and two separately nailed duet versions of I Stayed Off Work Today, and marinade for four hours in Black Sheep Ale for a jolly successful weekend : triumphs like this certainly make running the Baggsy List worthwhile. :o)
When I get round to cropping the contents of my camera's memory card, I have over 150 photos to post too.
Above and beyond, eveyone. See you at the next one !
