Jake on the Box - BBC4 6th Oct 06 - 2006/10/06 23:14 All I can say is WHAT A REVELATION.
I'm originally from Ireland and only heard of Jake around 1993, so didn't experience any of the "Braden Beat" or "That's life" or "Jake Thackray & Songs"; so to see him in action was brilliant. I know that people involved with the project were instrumental in bringing this broadcast to fruition so a HUGE thank-you for your efforts. I, for one, will be emailing the BBC to "congratulate" them for their foresight in such worthy broadcast content and requesting immediate re-broadcast on BBC2 to a wider audience a TELLING them there is definitely an audience for re-broadast of whatever they may hold in the archives of Jake.

Only wishing I could be communing and sharing (via msn or similar) the warm fuzzy post-broadcast feeling I'm experiencing right now.

Jake is one of the few performers who makes me tearful just because of his artistry & poetry.

GOD BLESS YOU JAKE, YOU OLD BUGGER!!

Re:Jake on the Box - BBC4 6th Oct 06 - 2006/10/07 12:06 Hi all,

I agree with Joe's sentiments. Let's all email the Programme Controller at Auntie Beeb and get the buggers to play some more ! They've obviously got JT & Songs in there somewhere.

Love and Hugs all round

Re:Jake on the Box - BBC4 6th Oct 06 - 2006/10/07 21:14 What an evening!!

I had to proceed to a boring community meeting immediately after work.

Home at ten minutes after 9.

Ignore wife.

Ignore kids.

Turn the telly on to Beebs 4.

Find a recordable DVD - who the hell has helped themselves to MY DVDrs anyway

The remote control to the DVD packs up - AGGH

Swap the batteries form the TV remote

Oh bugger now I cant swap the input .....

I am missing the broadcast......

Gave up and just watched - it was brilliant brilliant brilliant.

Now to email every bugger at the beeb for a repeat on 2.

Re:Jake on the Box - BBC4 6th Oct 06 - 2006/10/09 01:53 Sometimes , you eventually get the message ...

I remember That's Life as a kid . But I don't recall Jake ( sorry ! )

I generally caught Radio 2's Christmas output last year , but missed Jakefest -- probably looked at it in the schedules and thought it was a 'folk' thing ...

I usually catch Mike Harding's show on R2 , but was obviously doing 'summat's else' when he featured Jake recently .

I occasionally tune in to The Avengers on BBC4 on Friday nights -- it's not always on , but this week I got their black-and-white adventures and more !

Once Mr Steed & Mrs Peel had finished , I was all for settling down ... but on came this music programme ... a bit 'folky' , perhaps , but I'll give it a few minutes .....

I think the first piece was 'The Bull' (?) ... once the lyrics started to sink in properly , I was literally hooked ...

'Talent' does not sum up this work . This is the finest application of love and skill and humour and thought and delight and sheer humanity I have ever heard . Full. Stop .

Jake -- I finally caught up -- thankyou .

Re:Jake on the Box - BBC4 6th Oct 06 - 2006/10/09 13:02 As someone who does remember Jake from his days on The Braden Beat, I was delighted to catch the BBC4 shows (quite by chance). Until now I had not appreciated what a stunning talent Jake was in his prime. Both lyrically and musically he was a class act. His Brother Gorilla translation of Georges Brassens' original is simply brilliant. No wonder Jake was recognised as a great talent by the Frenchman himself. I'll certainly be adding Jake's music to my collection and hope the Beeb will screen more of his performances.

Re:Jake on the Box - BBC4 6th Oct 06 - 2006/10/10 14:32 The Morgans enjoyed the prog greatly, but we thought that there was not enough about those who work selflessly to keep the music alive. I will not embarass any of the organisers of the Jakefests, you know who you are and I think that a little more credit is/was due.

We caught a fleeting glimpse of both Clare and Maureen dressed as Nuns which served as a reminder of yet another great evening.

It is good to see the increase in posts and a lot of new members. Welcome one and all and I hope to meet some of you when there is another Jakefest.
