jake on the Box Joost - 2008/05/01 13:19 why have Joost taken off the documentary of Jake first seen in 2006 on BBC4. It was great and suddenlyit is off. Also Youtube had a lovely version of Jake singing Lah-de-Dah in a red pullover which has also been taken off. All we have is On Again which is good but why cant we have more vids of him, is it the rotten BBC not allowing their stuff to be shown?? Cant we all make a fuss about it. I have been on BBc h2g2 asking about it several times but no joy. Cant someone do something??

We had extensive conversations with the BBC about this some time ago. There is some good stuff in the archives and the Beeb are more than happy to have us release Jake material on DVD and were very helpful - but their commercial arm which is responsible for licensing asked for a fee of £1000 per broadcast minute. A significant chunk was required upfront before we got anywhere near artist's royalties, publishing royalties and the actual costs of production of DVDs.

Once the total costs were calculated and the likely market estimated, we concluded that it was way out of our league. Sadly this is likely to remain the case until either the archive appears on iPlayer or their licence structure changes.
