JAKE REMEMBERED [new section] - 2004/12/24 10:26 JAKE REMEMBERED [New section]

Hearty Christmas greetings to you all.

Some of you will know by now, from my postings on Topica and Yahoo, that I have been been putting together a selection of personal anecdotes and recollections of Jake, taken principally from the JT Books of Condolences, but also from our Yahoo and Topica forums, and from other online message boards. These extracts have been chosen and arranged to give some sort of picture of the man and the performer, and so they concentrate on material directly relating to Jake, rather than to the person posting the original message.

I posted the file on Yahoo earlier this week, so that it would mark the second anniversary of Jake’s death on Christmas Eve 2002, and Gordon has pulled out all the stops and managed to put it up on this handsomely refurbished website for its opening today. (Click on ‘Jake Remembered’ in the menu.)

I hope it may also go some way to meet the renewed interest in Jake and his work, which we are all hoping to see as a result of the BBC tribute tonight on Radio 2 at 9 pm. I’ll join you all in a toast to Jake while listening. Have a good celebration.

Judith

Re:JAKE REMEMBERED [new section] - 2004/12/25 09:36 I've always thought (and several times said) that David Harris's Book of Condolences was one of the best things we've done. A simple idea (like many of the best ones) but it has captured many amazing stories and feelings, some of them quite moving, all of them illuminating.

And now this labour of love by Judith and Gordon to collate them and put them on the site. What a great job!

Re:JAKE REMEMBERED [new section] - 2005/01/12 10:43 I have posted another file on Yahoo, called ‘Epitaphs for Jake’. It is a collection of six compositions, five of them taken from the JT Book of Condolences. One of them was posted previously on Topica, and one has already been posted as a separate file on Yahoo, but they are included here, as this collection is intended eventually for the website, as a final page in the JAKE REMEMBERED section.
