Introduction from a session at the Red Lion Folk Club, Birmingham, November 1986 On the coast of the North Riding of Yorkshire there’s a string of seedy little towns, seaside towns; and I love them, I’m ever so fond of them, more than I can tell you, and it’s only because, erm . . . because when I was a, when I was a child it was, it was childhood holidays, and I was very, very happy there, and I’m still happy when I go back. But, er, all the trawler fleets have left and nobody goes there really for holidays nowadays and it starts in Whitby in the North: Redcar and Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay and Saltburn and . . and of course there’s the queen of the Costa (whispers) queen: Scarborough; Scarborough. This song is about a woman who lives in Bridlington. |
