Torrington Baggsy List! (Updated 10th June) PDF Print E-mail

Yes, folks, it's that Baggsy List Time again and once more I have been afforded the humbling honour of trying to make sense of fifteen people all wanting to sing "Sister Josephine". To say nothing of five people wanting to sing "On Again ! On Again !" or just the two trying to sing "I Stayed Off Work Today"...

So here we go then. This is a call for all players of all abilities to join in celebration of the songs of Jake Thackray by performing his songs at Torrington on the Saturday night. At the TramFest last year there was a small run-over, and several impromptu spotting people had to be disappointed on the night, so this Fest I'll start off by asking for...

Up to THREE definite songs per performer/group, along with

Up to TWO spare ones in case time allows or Swapping starts to occur, which it almost inevitably will !

Every attempt will be made to allow everyone to do the songs they baggsy, as usual, but as many performers have the same shortlist of 5 classic Jake songs, there will be several songs which are in demand for many performers. With this in mind...

Can I ask everyone to try and do at least ONE song you haven't done at the last two JakeFests ? This should result in a more varied performance setlist, allow those of us less fluent with Jake's material to have a stab at the more famous numbers, and who knows, make us all better players (or at least make us practice !)

The traditional process of Baggsying and Baggsy Barter has begun and at time of going to press, there are eleven separate acts so far sorted for the Saturday Night SarahFest.

So there is loads of room yet for your opening bids. If you haven't mailed me yet but would like to sing in Torrington, please mail your THREE first choices and any spares you would like to do in case of duplication or extra time to malcolm (dot) jeffrey (at) virgin (dot) net.

So far, the songs that are UNBAGGSIED are

the ballad of Billy Kershaw
the brigadier
the cactus
Caroline Diggeby-Pratte
the cenotaph
country boy
country bus
country girl
dog
family tree
fine bay pony
the girl in the window
the girl with the fragile eyes
the gravedigger
the hole
Isabella
Isobel
jumble sale
the kiss
lah-di-dah
the last will and testament of Jake Thackray
the little black foal
lullaby
Mrs Murphy
nurse
on again ! on again !
on the shelf
One-Eyed Isaac
one of them
our dog
over to Isobel
pass Milord the rooster juice
personal column
the policeman's jig-jig
the poor sod
the rain on the mountainside
remember Bethlehem
romance
Salvation Army girl
Sophie
the statues
the tortoise
Ulysses

so pick your set from these ! If you would like to play but all of your possibles are gone already, tell me what you can do and we'll see if swapsies can be done. However, the value of shares can go down as well as up, your rhubarb may be at risk if you use it as security and the judges's decision will be final.

Cheers -
