TORRINGTON JAKEFEST UPDATE PDF Print E-mail

Booking for the Torrington Jakefest (September 17th and 18th) is brisk, with around forty tickets sold for the Friday performance and seventy for the Saturday evening. That's really excellent for this stage in the proceedings - thank you everyone for supporting the weekend and for getting your bookings in early.

The Plough's September programme has just been distributed to the general public, and I anticipate brisk sales of tickets for both the Friday evening event (the excellent jazz quartet 'Projet Brassens', headed by Charlie Hearnshaw and Maxine Green, play the songs of Georges Brassens and we eat a two course French meal), and the Saturday do. If you are still dithering and haven't yet booked your tickets, I suggest that you do so ASAP. Because of the cabaret-style seating for both events, the audience is limited to around 90.

As the Saturday entertainment starts at 7pm, I'm assuming that most people who are coming will want to eat at the Plough. I've been talking to the management about this, and they've offered to lay on a buffet for us from about 6pm. This way, people can eat when they like (so a meal will be available for our musicians when they finish playing), and can carry their meal into the auditorium. The management is not too keen on the prospect of 80 + people walking around the building with plates of hot food, so it will be a cold buffet.

The menu will include cold beef and ham, a vegetarian alternative, a selection of salads (e.g. rice, pasta, potato, coleslaw, mixed, etc.), fresh French bread, mayonnaise, relishes and so on, and bite-sized scones with jam and clotted cream. Tickets will be sold on the night, at £8 per head.

Obviously the staff of the Plough's cafe, who will be preparing the food, will need to have a rough idea of numbers. I'd be very grateful if all of you who are coming to the Torrington Jakefest could drop me an email, letting me know whether or not you're likely to want to eat from the buffet. While you're at it, could you please also indicate whether you would be interested in a mid-morning 'brunch' at the Plough on Sunday, before you leave? If enough of us are likely to want it, I may be able to persuade the cafe staff to forego their day off and open up for us.

I can thoroughly recommend the food at the Plough, by the way. It's made with good, fresh, local produce, the portions are big and it's reasonably priced.
