In the Burton Institute, Winster near Matlock. On Wednesday 2nd July, at 8pm, The Jake Thackray Show: A Tribute to the Great Man with many of his Songs. Licensed bar open 7.15 pm. Come and hear about the nun who was really a man; Isobel who made love upon national monuments; the widow of Bridlington; and many more weird and wonderful characters. A sense of humour and a broad mind are essential! The witty, idiosyncratic songs of Jake Thackray brought him national stardom on radio and TV in the 1960s. He became something of a cult figure during his lifetime, and, following his death in 2002 many new fans have come to appreciate his genius. This is an evening of gems, courtesy of three fine singers from York who share a passion for the work of this unique man. Guaranteed hilarious! Tickets £5 available from Winster Post Office (01629 650034) or from Geoff Lester (01629 650090). |
